Besançon, a digital and moibility centre

A digital economy centre

With the public institution Réseau Lumière established in 2000, Besançon is a pioneer territory for the development of broadband and high-speed digital networks. From its inception, the Réseau Lumière actually provided Besançon with a leading digital service connecting public institutions, nodes connecting subscribers (NRA) and developing unbundling for alternative operators.

A proactive strategy has helped implement the THD in the metropolitan area, approaching users (individuals and businesses) with fibre optics.

Besançon has already obtained the Ville internet @@@@@ three times.

TEMIS, the regional technology park of Greater Besançon is labelled THD.

To offer businesses a favourable framework for their development the Greater Besançon now hosts a data centre combining advanced technology and security.

The type Tier III+ DATA CENTER is equipped with a redundant power supply system for high performance outsourced data storage at very competitive prices; the access costs to the THD can be reduced by 50 to 60%!

Key players

  • SMARTESTING: French developer of functional testing software
  • AXOLIS, Development, Networks, Security, Internet
  • CY.EM Control : design of secure IT solutions, data recovery, CAM
  • Solutions SHAREPOINT : Internet portal, DMS solutions with workflows, project management areas, paperless forms
  • NEOCLYDE, born of the merger of EUCLYDE DATA CENTER and NEO TELECOM: Tier III+ Data Centre

Research and networks for innovation

FEMTO-ST and its Complex Systems Computing Department :

A territory favourable to mobility

With Parkeon (Schlumberger), IER and VIX TECHNOLOGY, the Greater Besançon hosts three great leaders of the ticketing and payment systems industry. With the microtechniques division and in partnership with Vehicle of the Future, the Greater Besançon promotes the development of future mobility.

Ticketing - electronic banking centre

PARKEON: a key player of urban mobility, PARKEON provides across the board a unique offer for parking management and ticketing solutions for public transport.

  • 95,000 bank transactions managed each day
  • 165,000 parking metres in 50 countries and over 3,000 cities
  • 5,000 ticket dispensers across Europe
  • 75,000 consoles and ticketing validators worldwide

IER, a subsidiary of Bolloré Group, is a leader supplier of terminals and ticket machines and boarding control equipment for major transportation networks.

IER is the world leading supplier of equipment for physical security and access control.

VIX Technology has designed and developed ticketing systems in more than 250 cities, generating more than 5 billion transactions each year.

These achievements include global benchmarks for this business: Hong Kong metro, San Francisco, Singapore, Rome metro, Sydney's City Rail, Las Vegas Monorail, Moscow metro, etc.

SMARTESTING industrialises and markets solutions for electronic transactions using smart card, terminals and Middleware.

The Test Designer technology is currently deployed by various industry players in these sectors:

Parkeon, Gemalto, Giesecke&Devrient, Ingenico, Diebold, Sagem, AustriaCard...

Innovation for future mobility

Energy is one of the four "market" priorities for the microtechniques division.

For the record, the work accomplished under the AMIMAC project, that optimised the development and production of electrical rotating machines, has contributed to the implementation of the AGVTM's new engine. The train designed by ALSTOM then broke in 2008 the world rail speed record, reaching 574.8 km/h on the East line.

Recherche et innovation en réseau

FEMTO-ST and its Energy Department:

The department brings together complementary skills already recognised for each team, in scientific fields such as :

  • Thermal and fluids science
  • Metrology
  • Electrical engineering

It is divided into three research teams, each one positioned on a particular theme in the field of engineering. But there is a strong synergy between the specialist groups to conduct multidisciplinary projects :

  • Metrology and instrumentation for energy
  • Multiphysics, multiscale modelling of energetic phenomena
  • Design of energy systems

Besançon.clic provides a lesson

besancon clic By providing its contribution of equipment to children in infant and elementary schools, to hospitalised children, as well as to their parents and teachers, Besançon-clic offers everyone the opportunity of a gentle introduction to the digital world.

It is an unprecedented concept in France which allows more than 1000 homes to familiarise themselves with information and communication technologies, at school or at home, thanks to the pack supplied free of charge each year to pupils at the CE2 level (eight-year-olds).

This collection of concrete measures for use by families generalises the use of CIT very early in school life and for an entire age class...
